Workshop venue

The workshop will be held in the Auditorium (Eridanus), Karl-Schwarzschild-Str. 2, Garching b. München.

Travelling to Garching

Garching lies about 13 km north-east of Munich and 17 km south-west of Munich international airport (Franz Josef Strauss). Please follow these instructions to travel to Garching.

For an overview, a summary of public transport possibilities between the airport, Garching, ESO, Ismaning and Munich City centre is given here. We recommend to consult the electronic time tables of the Munich transportation network MVV, and of the GermanRailways.

Instructions for travelling to the workshop venue

We advise all participants to travel to the workshop venue with the underground train (U-Bahn), line U6. The U-Bahn station in Garching is centrally located and within close reach of all hotels and is indicated with a large blue "U"-sign. Take the underground train (U-Bahn) line U6, with destination "Garching Forschungszentrum" (Garching Research Campus) - this is the last stop on the line. Exit the station at the rear end of the train and follow the sign for ESO (see map).

Registration

Registration will take place on Monday, December 3rd, between 11:00-14:00 in front of the ESO Auditorium (Eridanus). A later registration can be done during the coffee breaks.

Presentations

We will have available in the meeting room a Windows laptop and a Mac laptop with standard presentation software. Please bring your presentation on a memory stick (pdf preferred) and give it to one of the ESO persons wearing a yellow badge well before the session in which you talk. Using your own laptop is strongly discouraged.

Poster Papers

The poster papers will be on display at the ESO Headquarters for the duration of the workshop. The display area available per poster is limited to 60 cm (w) x 100 cm (h). Hence the accepted poster size is A1 (59.4 cm x 84.1 cm). There will be a dedicated poster session on Day TBC, Date TBC, from TBC to TBC.

Internet and email

Open wireless internet is available in most parts of the ESO building.

WELCOME RECEPTION - Monday evening (Dec 3)

In the ESO Supernova building on Monday after the last session.
MUNICH CHRISTMAS MARKET - Wednesday evening (Dec 5)

We plan to gather at one of the Christmas markets in Munich to have a Glühwein together. Details will be given at the start of the conference.
'GLÜHWEIN' AND SPEKULATIUS FAREWELL - Thursday evening (Dec 6)

Hot spiced wine and typical Christmas cookies, as well as Beer & Brezn, will be served at the venue after the last session.

Lunch

We plan to have catered lunch at the conference venue (TBC).

Bank service

There are banks and cash-points in Garching. All main credit and debit cards are accepted (with PIN code). Please note that the banks may close during lunch time and have otherwise opening hours grossly different from shops.

Weather

Munich weather in December tends to be cold and wet. So you should come prepared for this. Daytime temperatures are anywhere between 0-10 C. For more information, see Weather Online.
