ALMA Developers' Workshop
May 25th-27th, 2016
The Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA) is now the world’s premiere facility for millimeter/submillimeter astronomical observations, and will soon be fully operational in all of the originally planned bands. Since its first observations, ALMA has routinely delivered groundbreaking scientific results that span nearly all areas of astrophysics, and has recently begun solar and very long baseline interferometric (VLBI) campaigns as well.
Looking forward to 2030, we ask What’s next for ALMA? We solicit input from the European and international mm/submm communities on what the future directions of ALMA should be. We therefore will hold this workshop at Chalmers University in Gothenburg (Sweden) on May 25th-27th, 2016, and invite you to attend.In it, we will:
1. Review previous ALMA development studies.
2. Discuss priorities of the ALMA communities.
3. Solicit new ideas for ALMA in the context of other submm facilities
We will also discuss the priorities of other mm/submm observatories, and assess the role of current and new facilities in advancing mm/submm science.
