The ESO CCD workshops held in 1991, 1993 and 1996 were valuable venues of information exchange about astronomical CCD detectors. After a brief respite, ESO will continue the series with the 4^th Optical Detector for Astronomy Workshop to be held during September 13-16, 1999 in Garching. The attendance of the workshop is being limited due to space constraints and our desire to create an intimate setting for information exchange. There will be 3 days of meetings, talks, roundtable discussion, etc, preceded by an evening reception on 13^th of September. If possible we will have a visit to Wacker wafer fabrication facility during the day of 13 September, for those who wish to arrive early. There will be a social event (with workshop dinner) on the evening of 15 September.
