Report on 1st Night UVESSV (09.02.2000):
-- overall good, strong wind at the very beginning
of the night that delayed observations in the LMC
-- seeing: ~1.5" at the beginning of the night (with narrow
peaks up to 1.75"), but went down to 0.4-0.5" towards the
end of the night.
-- a total of 6 hours science exposures were taken:
- 1h30min R580 on LMC_N1866_444 (slit changed to 1.2", S/N~75 @600nm)
- 1h Dic2 on QSO_1101 2x2 (as from OB, S/N~37 @398nm)
- 1h Dic1 on QSO_1101 2x2 (as from OB, S/N~30 @ 358nm)
- 1h Dic1 on QSO_1122 1x2 (as from OB, S/N~45-50 in the range 490-570nm)
- 1h30min Dic1 on HES_2735 (as from OB, S/N to be determined - exp.still
running)
Report on 2nd Night UVESSV (10.02.2000):
-- good and better than yesterday, we could start from the
very beginning of the night on LMC
-- seeing: ~1.0" at the beginning of the night, it stayed below
1" for the whole night, ~0.6-0.7" in the 2nd half of the night.
It went up to 1.2" in the last 20min.
-- a total of 7 hours and 30min science exposures were taken:
- 2 x 1h30min R580 on LMC_ESO121_M313 (S/N~50 @500nm)
- 1h Dic2 on QSO_1101 1x2 (as from OB, S/N~40 @398nm)
- 2x1h Dic1 on QSO_1101 1x2 (as from OB, S/N~55 @ 375nm)
- 30s exposures of std. star HD63075 in both Dic
- 1h30min Dic2 on HES_2735
Report on 3rd Night UVESSV (11.02.2000):
-- very smooth observations
-- seeing: ~1.4" at the very beginning of the night (for 20min only),
then around 0.7", down to 0.4"-0.5" for most of the 2nd half of thenight.
-- a total of 7 hours and 10min science exposures were taken:
- 1x1h R580 on LMC_1866_1653 (slit opened to 1.2", S/N~85 @560nm)
- 1x1h40m R580 on LMC_2210_B4364 (as from OB: very nice, both
stars on the slit!! - B110 came for free)
- 1h Dic2 on QSO_1101 1x2 (as from OB, S/N~35 @398nm, seeing~0.7-0.75")
- 1x1h Dic1 on QSO_1101 2x2 (as from OB, S/N~55 @ 517nm, seeing: seeNote)
- 1x1h + 1x1h30min Dic1 on QSO_1101 1x2 (as from OB, very good seeing
~0.4-0.5")
- 30s exposures of std. star HD63075 in both Dic and both binnings1x2,2x2
Note#1: at the beginning of the first 1h exposure in Dic1 on QSO_1101the
seeing was higher than 1" - this is why we decided to use the 2x2 OB
(during the exposure, it went down even to 0.5-0.6")
Report on 4th Night UVESSV (12.02.2000):
-- seeing: ~0.8" at the beginning, oscillating around 0.6" for the
rest of the night
-- exp. time: total of 7 hours and 45min
-- science exposures:
- 1h15min R580 on LMC_121_M167 (as from OB, S/N~40 @550nm)
- 30m R580 on SN87A (sent directly to Bruno for quick evaluation)
- 1h Dic2 on QSO_1101 1x2 (as from OB, S/N~35 @398.5nm)

-- seeing: for the first time it was quite stable along the whole
night, around 0.6" on the average.
-- first short technical problem (we had to restart the RTD server).

-- seeing: fluctuating, but decent (especially in the last 3-4hours,
~0.6")

- 2x1h15m in R580 on LMC_1978_LE9 (as from OB, S/N~60 @570 on the 1stspc,
lower on the 2nd - seeing was worse and fluctuated during thewhole
exposure)

-- seeing: fluctuating, bad at the beginning of the night (~1.7") but
improved during the first hour or so. Rest of the nightbetween
~0.5-0.8"
-- exp. time: total of 8 hours observing time:
-- science exposures:
- 2x1h15m in R580 on LMC_1978_LE8 (as from OB, S/N~40 @520nm, slit
opened to 1.2" because of bad seeing at start).

Report on 8th Night UVESSV (16.02.2000):
-- seeing: not so good in the first 2-3 hours (we were very happy tohave
0.6" just when starting to integrate on LMC, but thenit degraded to
1.0", and 1.5" (few peaks even at 1.7"-1.8"). Better the2nd half of
the night (~0.7"-0.8")
-- exp. time: total of ~8h45m observing time:
-- science exposures:
- 2x1h in R580 on LMC_1866_867 (slit=1", seeing between 0.65" and 1.1",
S/N~30-35 @520nm on one single spc)
- 1h in Dic1 on SN87A (started because seeing was below 0.8" and seemed
to follow a descending trend - but when seeing got bad (>1.5)exp.
was shortened to 45min)
- 2x1h Dic2 on QSO_1122 2x2 (low counts: 40% of previousexposures)
- 2x1h on HE1347 2x2
- 1h Dic2 on HES2708, but the blue spectrum was lost because of a technical
problem. Only the red spectrum is available.

- 2 x 75 min: LMC_NGC1978_LE9-1: DIC 2 1x1,slit 1.0" average seeing 1.4 and 1.2" for the 1st and 2nd exposures respectivelylow ct level in blue
- 1 x 90 min: Q1122-1648: DIC 2 2x2 average seeing1.3"
ct level 40% of thoseobtained in subarc seeing conditions
- 2 x 90 min: Q1347-2457: DIC 2 2x2 average seeing 1.3 and 1.2 for the 1st and 2nd exposures respectively
