Automated detector Point Spread Function (PSF) measurements
The Point Spread Function (PSF) of an image sensor is a key performance parameter and can be determined from projecting and scanning a sub-pixel sized spot or fine luminous structure over individual pixels in micrometer steps, while recording the pixel signal in the area of interest.
This is done at arbitrary wavelengths using a freely positionable projector which is fibre-fed by a monochromator illumination system.
The work includes the commissioning and optimisation of such an opto-mechanical setup, the automation of data acquisition and data reduction using Python, to determine the PSF of an astronomical image sensor.
