Fostering equity, diversity and inclusion: an astronomical challenge?  
A diverse workforce is key to ensure balanced views, inclusive approaches and in the long run larger benefits worldwide. Among the different aspects that make-up diversity, the gender dimension of science and technology has become one of the most debated issues in our professional communities, worldwide. Despite many recent efforts and improvements achieved in recent years, most studies continue to identify disadvantages affecting our professional careers, both horizontally (per discipline) and vertically (per seniority level). It is therefore natural to ask ourselves how far we have got and how successful our actions have been. Are our goals too ambitious, unrealistic or have we not found yet the right solution?
