Building safe spaces for a community of diverse astronomers

The framework of modern astrophysics is highly interdisciplinary, international, and multicultural. Achieving groundbreaking research and ambitious goals in such a context requires fair representation of diverse members across all levels, as well as fostering a healthy and inclusive working environment. However, marginalized groups—including women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, ethnic minorities, and people with disabilities—remain underrepresented, both in overall numbers and especially in leadership positions. This underrepresentation often leads to discrimination and systemic barriers that hinder individuals from fulfilling their potential and achieving scientific excellence. In this talk, I will share our recent efforts and key lessons learned at various scales—ranging from research groups and departments to international collaborations—towards making the landscape of future Astrophysics more inclusive, diverse, and equitable for all.
