The Physics of Galaxy Accretion

How do galaxies get the gas needed to fuel star formation?' remains a fundamental open question, even for the Milky-Way. I will review recent theoretical developments in galaxy accretion physics, which go beyond the classic separation between 'cold' and 'hot' accretion. I will also discuss the potential implications of different accretion modes for the evolution of the central star forming galaxy, and novel CGM observations which could be used to constrain how gas accretes onto real galaxies.
