Metals as the DNA of the Universe

Galactic history shares some features with biological evolution. In fact, thanks to the metal production inside stars which are donated to the ISM after stars die for recycling, there is descent with modification in the Universe. This has huge implications on the possibilities of how can we study the evolutionary processes in the Universe. In this talk I would like to introduce the principles of "Galactic phylogenetics" and present new results of a phylogenetic analysis of GALAH stellar abundances.
