Travelling to Bahía Inglesa

Bahía Inglesa is a small resort known for its white sandy beaches with warm, calm waters and a good culinary offer from its various restaurants. It is located in the Atacama Region, 803 km. north of Santiago, 80 km northeast of Copiapó and 6 km south of Caldera (map).

Lan Airlines (see Nov. schedule for the most economic tariff) and Sky Airline fly to the Desierto de Atacama Airport, in Copiapó. The airport is located at 50 km NW of Copiapó and it takes only 22 km to arrive to Caldera and Bahía Inglesa, a 20-min ride.

There are several bus services that go to Copiapó from Santiago. They usually leave in the late evening and the trip takes approximately 12 hours. For more information about the bus trip, please check here.

The LOC will make arrangements to have transport available for participants arriving on Sunday, November 7, and leaving on Thursday, November 11. Then, kindly provide your flight schedule - arrival and departure - to organize this transport (mgomez@eso.org).

Otherwise, you can take a van transfer to Bahía Inglesa from the Desierto de Atacama airport: CASTHER transfer charges CLP$ 4000 (USD$7.5 / EUR 6) per person while taxis charge CLP$8000 - 10000 for the ride. Please note that the transport passes by Caldera town on its way to Bahía Inglesa
