Interferometry - Mona Lisa observed with antennas in different orientations

This image illustrates how three different arrangements of a telescope array would produce different types of images by interferometry, the telescopes are imaging the Mona Lisa. There are 6 panels and in the first column is an array of telescopes all horizontally aligned in the same direction, which produces an image that appears stretched in the vertical direction. In the next column is a vertically aligned array of telescopes producing a horizontally stretched image. Finally, there is an array of telescopes in concentric circles, which produces an image that is still blurry, but much more recognisable as the Mona Lisa.

How the Mona Lisa would look when observed with antennas in different orientations. When the antennas are lined up they can only discern details along that line. Using baselines at multiple angles yields a more complete image.
