Working on the VST

A specialised team from the Capodimonte Astronomical Observatory (OAC) of Naples and a research centre of the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) is working hard on the VLT Survey Telescope (VST), which is expected to be fully operational in 2011. The VST is a joint project between these Italian research centres and ESO. The VST is a state-of-the-art 2.6-metre telescope equipped with OmegaCAM, a monster 268 megapixel CCD camera with a field of view four times the area of the full Moon. It is designed to survey the sky in the visible light.
