Black hole mass as a function of angular size distance
This diagram shows how black hole mass varies with angular size distance. Spatial resolution assumes the diffraction limit case and scales with the telescope diameter. The ELT line is for θres = 10 mas (a value intermediate between the two wavelength-dependent extremes), the VLT one is for θres = 50 mas (ERIS), while the JWST one is θres = 60 mas.
