Cerro Paranal at night

This music video is a compilation of stunning clips of the operation of ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) at the Paranal Observatory. The VLT fires its lasers into the Earth's atmosphere, creating an artificial guide star 90 kilometres above ground and, by using adaptive optics, captures an image much clearer and more detailed than would otherwise be possible. Other than the motion of VLT's Unit Telescopes, nights at Cerro Paranal are among the most peaceful in the world.
