A sea of cloud

Taken from the Paranal mountain, home to the ESO Paranal site that houses the Very Large Telescope (VLT), this spectacular view, directed out over the South Pacific Ocean, is overshadowed by a rare cloudy sky. The water itself is hidden beneath a second sea of thin clouds, hovering below the mountain's peak.
