Mounted image 100: Four ALMA antennas on the Chajnantor plateau
Four ALMA antennas gaze up at the impressive plane of the Milky Way, our own galaxy. The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) is located at 5000 metres altitude on the Chajnantor plateau, in the Atacama Desert. These antennas were being tested as part of the observatory’s Commissioning and Science Verification phase.
