Aberto Concurso Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2020
ESO em parceria com o Observatório Real de Greenwich

O Observatório Real de Greenwich, em associação com a empresa Insight Investment e a BBC Sky at Night Magazine, anunciou as datas para o concurso Insight Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2020 — a sua procura global anual das mais bonitas e espectaculares visões do cosmos, sejam elas fotografias notáveis de enormes galáxias a milhões de anos-luz de distância ou imagens surpreendentes do céu noturno, muito mais perto de nós. O ESO apoia a edição de 2020 contribuindo com um membro do júri do seu Departamento de Comunicação.
Já na sua décima segunda edição, este concurso muito popular aceita candidaturas a partir de 13 de Janeiro de 2020, dando aos participantes a oportunidade de receberem um prémio de 10 000 libras. Os participantes terão que concorrer até dia 6 de Março de 2020 com até 10 imagens das várias categorias do concurso através da página www.rmg.co.uk/astrocomp.
O Concurso Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2020 tem nove categorias principais:
- Auroras: fotografias que mostrem auroras tanto no hemisfério norte como no hemisfério sul.
- Galáxias: objetos do espaço profundo que se encontrem para além da Via Láctea, incluindo galáxias, enxames de galáxias e associações estelares.
- A Lua: imagens da Lua, incluindo eclipses lunares e ocultações de planetas.
- O Sol: imagens do Sol, incluindo eclipses solares e trânsitos.
- Pessoas e Espaço: fotografias do céu nocturno que incluam pessoas ou um elemento humano interessante.
- Planetas, Cometas e Asteróides: todo o restante Sistema Solar, incluindo planetas e seus satélites, cometas, asteróides e outras formas de restos zodiacais.
- Paisagens do céu: imagens de paisagens urbanas, marítimas ou campestres, onde o céu crepuscular ou nocturno sejam proeminentes.
- Estrelas e Nebulosas: objetos do espaço profundo que se encontrem na Via Láctea, incluindo estrelas, enxames estelares, restos de supernovas, nebulosas e outros fenómenos intergalácticos.
- Jovem Astrofotógrafo do Ano: fotografias tiradas por aspirantes a astrónomos com idade inferior a 16 anos.
Há ainda dois prémios especiais: o Prémio Sir Patrick Moore for Best Newcomer, para a melhor fotografia tirada por um astrofotógrafo amador que tenha começado este hobby no último ano e que não tenha participado ainda neste concurso; e o Annie Maunder Prize for Image Innovation, para imagens processadas utilizando dados open source já existentes.
Três novos membros do júri juntam-se ao painel de avaliação deste ano: Dr Emily Drabek-Maunder (astrónomo do Observatório Real de Greenwich), László Francsics (astrofotógrafo e vencedor do Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2019) e Susan Derges (artista).
As imagens têm que ser submetidas até ao dia 6 de Março de 2020 e os trabalhos vencedores serão expostos na exposição anual do National Maritime Museum, cuja entrada é paga.
Os fotógrafos podem concorrer online através do link www.rmg.co.uk/astrocomp e cada participante pode submeter até 10 imagens.
