Obóz Astronomiczny ESO dla uczniów gimnazjów i szkół średnich

Europejskie Obserwatorium Południowe (ESO) wraz ze swoją Siecią Popularyzacji Nauki oraz we współpracy z organizatorem imprez popularyzujących naukę – Sterrenlab – przygotują pierwszy Obóz Astronomiczny ESO. Obóz będzie trwać w dniach 26-31 grudnia 2013 r. w Obserwatorium Astronomicznym Aosta Valley w Saint-Barthelemy w gminie Nus we Włoszech. Kilku partnerów, w tym ESO, zasponsoruje łącznie siedem stypendiów dla najlepszych zgłoszeń (liczba stypendiów może jeszcze ulec zwiększeniu).
W ramach zajęć podczas obozu poruszone zostaną zagadnienia widocznego i niewidocznego Wszechświata, będzie okazja do ćwiczeń praktycznych oraz nocnych obserwacji za pomocą teleskopów i instrumentów obserwatorium. Zaplanowano także inne aktywności, takie jak sporty zimowe i wycieczki, tak aby obóz był interesującym doświadczeniem dla uczestników. ESO będzie odpowiedzialne za program naukowy obozu i wspólnie z pozostałymi partnerami przeprowadzi wykłady i dostarczy materiały.
Sterrenlab specjalizuje się w organizowaniu międzynarodowych obozów astronomicznych dla dzieci i młodzieży. Ma do zaoferowania różnorodne usługi w zakresie konsultacji, planowania i implementowania projektów i imprez z zakresu edukacji i popularyzacji nauki.
Obóz zostanie zorganizowany dla maksymalnie 55 uczniów w wieku od 16 do 18 lat z krajów członkowskich ESO oraz z państw, w których działa Sieć Popularyzacji Nauki ESO (m.in. Polska). Uczniowie, którzy chcieliby zgłosić podanie o udział, powinni wypełnić formularz na stronie obozu w terminie do 15 października 2013 r. Wybór kandydatów nastąpi do 31 października 2013 r. Ostateczne potwierdzenie udziału powinno zostać dokonane przez uczestników do 8 listopada 2013 r. Kryteria wyboru podań i inne instrukcje dla uczestników zostały zamieszczone na witrynie internetowej obozu.
Opłata rejestracyjna 480 euro obejmuje pełne zakwaterowanie w hostelu Saint Barthelemy, opiekę profesjonalnej kadry, wszystkie zaplanowane aktywności astronomiczne i pozastronomiczne, materiały, wycieczki, transport wewnętrzny oraz ubezpieczenie. Zorganizowany zostanie także transport pomiędzy obserwatorium, a lotniskiem Milan Malpensa.
Najlepiej oceniony kandydat otrzyma darmową podróż ufundowaną przez ESO. Stypendium pokryje kompletny koszt obozu oraz koszty dojazdu. Zostanie przyznane najlepszemu zgłoszeniu dokonanemu przez ucznia mieszkającego w jednym z krajów członkowskich ESO. Kilku narodowych partnerów ufundowało stypendia pokrywające koszt udziału w obozie (ale bez kosztów dojazdu), które zostaną przyznane najlepszym zgłoszeniom z odpowiednich krajów:
- Włochy: Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, University of Milan
- Polska: Polskie Towarzystwo Astronomiczne oraz Urania — Postępy Astronomii
- Polska: Urząd Marszałkowski Województwa Kujawsko-Pomorskiego
- Hiszpania: Sociedad Española de Astronomía
- Szwajcaria: Université de Gèneve
