Sun halo above Paranal
A sun halo is visible in the sky above ESO's Paranal Observatory, demonstrating that breathtaking phenomena are not exclusive to night skies. Paranal is the home of ESO's flagship telescope, the Very Large Telescope (VLT), the world's most advanced optical instrument. It is located on Cerro Paranal, a 2600-metre high mountain south of Antofagasta, Chile, which experiences about 300 clear nights per year.
