Startrail sky over the VLT
In the background of this cropped fish-eye image, the Large and Small Magellanic Cloud galaxies are just visible in a startrail sky, to the left of the Yepun Unit Telescope, one of four such 8.2-metre instruments situated at the ESO-operated Very Large Telescope(VLT). Centre right, the Zodiacal Light glows above the Milky Way, which lies beyond the horizon. The VLT is based at the Cerro Paranal site in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile.
