Inside UT1 of the VLT
Pictured here inside Unit Telescope 1 of the Very Large Telescope array (VLT) is FORS2: a multi mode (imaging, polarimetry, long slit and multi-object spectroscopy) optical instrument. FORS2 is mounted on the Cassegrain focus — the yellow structure.
NaCo — which provides adaptive optics assisted imaging, imaging polarimetry, coronography and spectroscopy — can been seen to the right of the image. KMOS — the K-band Multi Object Spectrograph — is to the left.
