VLT atop Cerro Paranal
The ESO Very Large Telescope (VLT) atop Cerro Paranal, a 2600-metre-high mountain, located some 120 km south of Antofagasta, in the Atacama Desert of Chile. The VLT is composed of four 8.2-metre Unit Telescopes (UTs) and four 1.8-metre Auxiliary Telescopes (ATs). In this picture, taken from the neighbouring peak of the 4.1-metre VISTA telescope (also part of the Paranal Observatory) we see, from left to right: the UT4 "Yepun" Telescope, the VST, and the UT3 "Melipal" Telescope.
