Our gleaming Milky Way
This image taken at Paranal shows our beautifully gleaming Milky Way galaxy. The thick strip of glimmering stars is the plane of the Galaxy. The dark centre may look empty, but it is filled with masses of dust and gas blocking visible light and leaving a shadow through the galaxy's core.
