ESO 3.6-metre telescope

The ESO 3.6-metre telescope stands tall amongst a stunning backdrop of the rest of ESO's La Silla Observatory and Chile's Atacama Desert.

This telescope began operations in 1977, and is home to the superb exoplanet-hunting High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher (HARPS) instrument: the most successful finder of low-mass exoplanets to date.
