Paranal beneath the Milky Way
This is stunning proof of the night sky's clarity in the Chilean Atacama Desert. It is this clarity which makes this the perfect site for ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) which can be seen on the 2600-metre-high Cerro Paranal as part of the Paranal Observatory in the distance, dwarfed by the Milky Way above.
