14 antennas at the ALMA AOS
Fourteen 12-metre ALMA antennas are positioned near the centre of the array at 5000 metres altitude on the Chajnantor plateau. Behind the antennas is the Array Operations Site (AOS) Technical Building. This is the location of the Correlator, the specialised supercomputer which will combine the signal of the antennas, making them work as a single giant telescope. The picture was taken looking toward the northeast, in May 2011.
