Yepun's Laser Guide Star
An orange laser beam — used to produce an artificial star high up in Earth's atmosphere — emerges from Yepun, one of the four Unit Telescopes that form part of ESO's Very Large Telescope, situated atop Cerro Paranal in northern Chile. The trails of stars, formed as the Earth rotates, are seen overhead.
