In the Atacama Desert by day
The Chilean Atacama desert is home to ESO's world-class observatories, including La Silla, Paranal and Chajnantor. This desert is one of the driest places on Earth, often going years without a drop of rain, making it a paradise for astronomers who want to observe clear skies. The panoramatic view was taken deep in the desert, about 250 kilometers (155 miles) south from ESO Paranal Observatory.
