Vertrag für das endgültige Design und die Kontruktion des weltweit größten adaptiven Spiegels unterzeichnet

Die ESO hat einen Vertrag mit dem AdOptica-Konsortium in Italien unterzeichnet. Der Zusammenschluss aus ADS International und Microgate in Zusammenarbeit mit dem INAF (Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica) ist nun für das endgültige Design und die Konstruktion der anspruchsvollen adaptiven Einheit für den vierten Spiegel (M4) des European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT) zuständig. Das Spiegelsystem wird alle bisher gefertigten adaptiven Spiegel für Teleskope übertreffen und der größte seiner Art sein.
Der Vertrag wurde am 19. Juni 2015 von Vertretern von AdOptica und der ESO am ESO-Hauptsitz feierlich unterzeichnet.
Der Vertrag mit AdOptica beinhaltet nicht die Herstellung der Spiegelschalen selbst. Für deren Bau wird demnächst eine weitere Vertragsunterzeichnung bekanntgegeben.
Das deformierbare 2,4-Meter-Spiegelsystem M4 ist ein wesentlicher Bestandteil des E-ELT. Es besteht aus einem Spiegel, der aus sechs Komponenten mit Aktuatoren und Kontrollsystemen besteht. Dadurch können Bildverzerrung durch die Turbulenzen der Erdatmosphäre in Echtzeit korrigiert werden und durch Wind verursachte Deformationen der Struktur des Hauptteleskops ausgeglichen werden. Das korrigierte optische System wird die Aufnahme von Bildern mit dem Teleskop ermöglichen, deren Bildschärfe mit der von im Weltraum aufgenommenen Bildern vergleichbar sein wird [1].
Dies ist die bisher erste Konstruktion eines solchen Spiegelsystems, zu der die Untersuchungen 2008 mit zwei konkurrierenden Verträgen für ein vorläufiges Design für das E-ELT begannen. 2012 wurde AdOptica von den zwei konkurrierenden Designs ausgewählt. Seitdem hat AdOptica das vorläufige Design für das System deutlich weiterentwickelt, um die Anforderungen an die Stabilität zu erfüllen. Die Überprüfung des vorläufigen Designs wurde im April 2015 erfolgreich abgeschlossen und die Firma hat zu Demonstrationszwecken einen Spiegel mit einem Durchmesser von einem Meter als Prototyp erstellt, der die Leistungsanforderungen der ESO erfüllt.
Der neue Vertrag umfasst das endgültige Design und den Bau von M4. Das finale Design soll planmäßig Mitte 2017 fertiggestellt sein. Im Anschluss wird die Einheit gebaut und die Leistungsanforderungen in Europa getestet, bevor sie Ende 2022 nach Chile verschickt wird.
