AstroCamp 2018 -kesäleirin stipendin saaja on julkaistu
ESO:n stipendi kattaa leirin koko kustannuksen, tarjoten Palomalle taloudellisen tuen osallistua tähän mahdollisesti uraaluovaan tapahtumaan.
AstroCamp on akateeminen ohjelma tähtitieteen ja fysiikan aloilla. Sen järjestää Porton yliopiston astrofysiikan keskus (CAUP). Leiri järjestetään 5.–19.8.2018 eristäytyneessä ja rauhallisessa ympäristössä, Centre for Environmental Education and Interpretation of the Corno de Bico Protected Landscape -keskuksessa kaukana kaupunkien stressistä. Ohjelma on suunnattu Euroopan Unionin maista tuleville lukio-oppilaille, jotka suorittavat viimeisiä kolmea vuottaan ennen yliopisto-opiskeluja.
Leirin kahden viikon aikana oppilaat havaitsevat pimeää yötaivasta paljaalla silmällä ja kaukoputkella sekä kohtaavat eri maista kotoisin olevia tähtitieteilijöitä ja fyysikkoja Skypen välityksellä. He toteuttavat myös tietokoneprojektin, jossa työskennellään maailman parhaimmilta teleskoopeilta tulevan havaintoaineiston parissa.
