Fish-eye perspective inside a UT

This unique fish-eye fulldome image provides a fresh perspective inside the enclosure of one of the four Unit Telescopes of ESO's Very Large Telescope, revealing the intricate walls of the telescope's dome and the complex mechanisms that control the telescope structure — seen in the centre of the image.

The dome of the telescope, seen in an open configuration in this image, moves with extreme precision, and can allow for careful temperature control — preventing warm air currents from disrupting observations with the telescope's 8.2 metre mirror.
