A frosty Chajnantor plateau
This image shows the antennas of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) surrounded by snow. ALMA consists of 66 huge antennas, which work together to observe the cold and distant Universe, addressing some of the deepest questions of our cosmic origins. These antennas sit at an altitude of 5100 metres on the arid Chajnantor plateau in the Chilean Andes.
