Building blocks of the ELT dome
At the base camp of ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), pieces of the telescope dome are lined up and waiting to be brought up the hill to the top of Cerro Armazones. The dome, a mammoth structure 80 metres tall and weighing 6100 tonnes, is brought together like pieces of a LEGO set.
