M5 support cell at Sener

This photograph, provided by Sener, shows the M5 support cell at the company's premises near Barcelona, Spain. M5 is the fifth mirror on the light path of ESO's Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) and it will be part of the telescope's adaptive-optics system. At 2.2 by 2.7 metres, the mirror is the largest of its kind. The cell’s tip-tilt mechanism will adjust the angle of the mirror to within a few tens of milli-arcsecond accuracy up to 10 times per second, all without bending the mirror.
