Progress of Pulic Surveys with VISTA and VST

ESO Workshop, Garching, Germany, 5 – 9 October 2015

Since the start of VLT science operations, about 15% of science time has been allocated to Large Programmes. In the last five years, the ESO Public Surveys on VISTA, VST, VLT and NTT, have vastly increased the public data delivered by La Silla Paranal telescopes. The scientific research of these Programmes and Surveys covers all areas of observational astronomy. This workshop will focus on the scientific results achieved through these programmes and the potential for enhanced exploitation of the archival data.

The workshop is organised in six sections: stars and planets; Milky Way and Local Group; extragalactic astronomy; galaxy evolution; high-redshift Universe and cosmology; legacy value of Public Surveys and Large Programmes. Presentations from all the Public Surveys and a representative set of the Large Programmes completed since the last Large Programme workshop in 2008 will be scheduled. A session on the impact of these programmes and on developments required to increase community access to the reduced data will be included.

Full details can be found on the workshop website; or by enquiry to Rainbows2015.
The deadline for abstract submission is 30 June 2015 and the registration deadline is 7 September 2015.
