The Call for Proposals for observations at ESO telescopes in Period 96 (1 October 2015 – 31 March 2016) has been released. Please consult the Call for Proposals document for the main news items and policies related to applying for time on ESO telescopes. All technical information about the offered instruments and facilities is contained on ESO webpages that are linked from the Call.
The deadline for proposals is 12:00 CET 26 March 2015.
Call for Observing Proposals for Period 96
Important changes for Period 96:
Proposers should note that the seeing constraint to be specified at Phase 1 is the required seeing in the V-band at zenith. The exposure time calculators have been modified accordingly (also see the Observing Conditions webpage).
Large Programme proposals should include a detailed delivery plan for the publication of science data products through the Science Archive Facility, using Boxes 6 and 7 of the LaTeX template.
ESO strongly encourages programmes that effectively exploit the worst observing conditions on the VLT: proposals requesting >1.2 arcsecond seeing in the V-band, thin-thick clouds and no moon constraints.
The VLTI instruments AMBER and PIONIER are offered in Period 96. This is the first period for which PIONIER is offered as a facility instrument. VLTI proposals requesting service mode observations are encouraged, as the VLTI will be strongly affected by commissioning activities related to the second generation VLTI instrument, Gravity.
SEPIA, a new APEX instrument that can house up to three ALMA-type receiver cartridges, is offered subject to successful commissioning in March and May 2015. See the separate announcement for Science Verification of SEPIA
