Abstract
Astronomy research has changed quite substantially
in the last ten years or so. Astronomers work in ever growing
international collaborations, handle substantial amounts of
multi-wavelength datasets (often obtained from several different
observatories), and deal with very specific new challenges (with
regard to data rates, computing hardware and software, and analysis
techniques). In light of these trends and observed needs, we, at the
Space Telescope Science Institute, have engaged in planning
strategically for future science computing needs of our staff. In my
contribution, I will present our plan and discuss some of our top
priorities, such as Graphics Processing Units, grid computing, and
storage challenges. Paper ID: P014
