Since Oct 2019, the EU ARC is offering its users the "CalMS" service which has so far provided 155 unique users with more than 1750 calibrated MeasurementSets (MSs). As its popularity increases, further features are added to the system. Users can now:

  • immediately produce line images and cubes making use of the continuum subtraction performed by the pipeline,
  • request the calibrated data for particular calibrator targets,
  • identify MOUSs which belong to the same Group OUS.

Regarding the new features added to the system, more details are reported below:

  1. For all Pipeline-imaged MOUSs from Cycle 8 onwards, also the Pipeline uvcontsub MSs will be created and provided for download in addition to the standard calibrated data. Using these additional MSs, users can immediately start to produce line images and cubes making use of the continuum subtraction performed by the pipeline.
  2. Users can now request the calibrated data for particular calibrator targets via the CalMS service. If a user is interested in the data of a certain calibrator target (typically a Quasar) which is contained in a MOUS which is still in proprietary time, but the user is not part of the PI team and thus not entitled to access the science target data of the MOUS, then he/she can still request the calibrated data for the calibrator only. Just add the text "requesting only the data for calibrator <name>" to your helpdesk request where <name> is the exact name of the calibrator, e.g. "J0217-0820", as it can be determined from the Archive.
  3. For the convenience of users who want to identify MOUSs which belong to the same Group OUS, there are now entries added in the HISTORY table of the generated MSs which state the MOUS and GOUS UIDs.
So far, the CalMS service has provided 155 unique users with more than 1750 MOUSs worth of calibrated datasets, from all Cycles back to Cycle 1 (See https://almascience.eso.org/local-news/requesting-calibrated-measurement-sets-in-europe). The fraction of repeat requests was 16%. The system can presently handle a load of up to 400 MOUSs/month.The maximum monthly number of requested MOUSs was so far 167. The typical response time is less than a day. The download link which you receive by email remains valid for 28 days.
