ESO Hosts Workshop on Communicating Science to Society
9 novembre 2016
On 29 and 30 May 2017, ESO will host a workshop entitled Public Awareness of Research Infrastructures II — Communicating the Importance of Science to Society. The workshop, organised jointly by the Association of European-level Research Infrastructure Facilities (ERF-AISBL), the Heinz-Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ), and the EIROforum, will take place at ESO’s Headquarters in Garching bei München, Germany.
The importance of science in society cannot be underestimated, and effective communication between scientists and the general public is absolutely crucial. Efforts to share the results of exciting and groundbreaking science with a wide audience have seen great successes, resulting in a more curious and engaged public.
The workshop will be a hands-on forum for communications officers and public-relations staff from major research institutions, providing them with an opportunity to share their experience and expertise. The topics that will be addressed include: the evaluation of communication activities and impact; unconventional outreach: thinking outside the box; engaging the scientists; social media; and enhancing collaboration between research campuses.
The event will stimulate a lively exchange of ideas that will allow science communication specialists to leave with renewed inspiration and a deeper understanding of how to engage effectively across all sectors of society.
Abstracts may be submitted until 10 February 2017. Registration opens on 8 November 2016 and will close on 2 May 2017. The registration fee is 200 euros. Further information can be found here.
