Latest Comment (June 7, 13:30 UT) : There are several active regions on the Sun just now (left and middle images). The image from the Swedish Solar Telescope (SST) on Tenerife (left) shows the so-called "granulation", cells of hot gas (hundreds of kilometres across) moving around near the visible "surface" of the Sun. The adrk feature in the lower part of that image is a "sunspot", a region somewhat cooler than the surroundings. Venus is visible in the image from SOHO-LASCO (right), approaching the Sun from the left. The display above (calculation of the AU) has been activated, but for obvious reasons, no timings from the transit in 2004 are yet available; those from 1874 and 1882 are used instead as example. | OTHER WEBSITES | |
