ESO unterzeichnet Vereinbarung mit UN Women und feiert den Internationalen Tag der Frauen und Mädchen in der Wissenschaft

Heute, am Internationalen Tag der Frauen und Mädchen in der Wissenschaft, zeigen wir einige der Schritte auf, die die ESO in Richtung Vielfalt und Inklusion unternommen hat, und berichten, wie die Organisation diesen besonderen Tag feiert.
Am 30. Januar 2020 unterzeichneten die ESO und UN Women im Vitacura-Büro der ESO in Santiago de Chile ein „Memorandum of Understanding“, mit dem die ESO ihr Engagement für die Förderung von Gleichstellung, Vielfalt und Inklusion bekräftigt. Die ESO und UN Women Chile werden ihre Stärken bündeln, um die Karriere junger Mädchen in den Bereichen Wissenschaft und Ingenieurwesen in Chile zu fördern und Ausbildungsmöglichkeiten für benachteiligte Frauen zu schaffen, die Schwierigkeiten haben, ihre Schulausbildung abzuschließen. Darüber hinaus wird die ESO die Women Empowerment Principles als Wegweiser nutzen, um den Fortschritt ihrer Diversitäts- und Inklusionsmaßnahmen zu strukturieren und zu messen. Das Abkommen wurde unterzeichnet von María Noel Vaeza, UN-Direktorin für Frauen in Amerika und der Karibik, und Xavier Barcons, ESO-Generaldirektor - in Anwesenheit von Mitarbeitern von UN Women und der ESO, die an der Ausarbeitung des Abkommens beteiligt waren.
Am 7. und 14. Februar präsentieren wir im ESO-Blog eine Reihe von Interviews mit ESO-Mitarbeiterinnen, um die Frauen bei der ESO zu ehren und ihre Arbeit vorzustellen. Sie decken ein breites Spektrum von Aufgaben ab, vom Ingenieurwesen über den Teleskopbetrieb bis hin zur astronomischen Forschung, und wir hoffen, dass sie junge Frauen und Mädchen zu einer Karriere in Wissenschaft, Technologie oder Ingenieurwesen inspirieren können.
Die ESO ist auch stolz darauf, an der EIROforums Feier des Internationalen Tags der Frauen und Mädchen in der Wissenschaft teilzunehmen, einer Porträt-Galerie mit Wissenschaftlerinnen, Physikerinnen und Ingenieurinnen. Das EIROforum ist das Forum der acht größten europäischen zwischenstaatlichen Forschungsorganisationen, darunter auch die ESO.
Intern hat die ESO viele Schritte unternommen, um Vielfalt und Gleichberechtigung in der Organisation zu fördern. 2017 richtete sie ein Diversity and Inclusion Committee ein, um die Vielfalt bei der ESO und in der breiteren astronomischen Gemeinschaft zu fördern. Zu den Maßnahmen, die das Komitee ergriff, gehören die Analyse der Einstellungsverfahren bei der ESO und der Ausbildungsprozess der Auswahlausschüsse. Darüber hinaus leitete das Komitee eine Reihe von Gesprächen über Vielfalt und Inklusion ein, in denen Wissenschaftler aller Fachrichtungen und Hintergründe eingeladen wurden, ihre Themen vorzustellen. Zur Feier von Frauen in der Wissenschaft in dieser Woche organisieren Mitglieder des Komitees zahlreiche Veranstaltungen für ESO-Mitarbeiter, um die Bedeutung des Tages hervorzuheben und Frauen bei der ESO zu unterstützen.
Darüber hinaus veranstaltet die ESO zur Feier des Tages im ESO Supernova Planetarium & Besucherzentrum einen öffentlichen Vortrag, der vom benachbarten Max-Planck-Institut für extraterrestrische Physik (MPE) organisiert wird.
