Hypatia Colloquium: Chile 2024

The European Southern Observatory's (ESO) Office for Science (OfS) in Santiago, Chile, is thrilled to announce the third edition of the Hypatia Colloquium Series. This event provides a fantastic platform for young researchers—including PhD students and postdoctoral researchers up to three years after graduation—to share their scientific work with a wide audience.

ESO has a deep connection with Chile, thanks to the country's high-quality sky conditions for astronomical observations. With advanced observatories in the Atacama Desert, ESO benefits from Chile's clear skies. At the same time, Chile's astronomical community continues to grow, with vibrant PhD programs and diverse young astronomers bringing new scientific ideas and perspectives. Within this context, this colloquium series builds on the long collaboration between ESO and its host country, with the aim of highlighting the exciting contributions of young-career astronomers to our understanding of the Universe.

Event Details for Applicants

  • Talks: Duration and frequency of the talks are still to be defined. Please note that each session will be considered a dedicated seminar. This means you'll have the opportunity to delve deeply into each topic
  • Participation: We strongly encourage you to attend in person to fully engage with the community and make the most of this opportunity. To assist with your travel needs, funding is available upon request. If you're unable to join us on-site, don't worry—we also offer an online option via Zoom so you won't miss out.
  • Registration: You can apply using the dedicated Registration Form.

Our selection committee—composed of Fellows, postdocs, and staff astronomers from ESO Chile and Chilean universities—will ensure that only the highest quality research is featured.  Building on the success of our previous online editions, we aim to make this event a prestigious platform for early-career astronomers to showcase their work. We hope this new edition will achieve the same recognition within the Chilean community.
