MIDI SD1/Alpha Ara

Abstract

SD1 Probing the disk of Be and B[e] stars with the MIDI instrument (alfa Ara)

We propose to obtain the first measurements in the mid-infrared of theemitting regions around Be and B[e] stars in order to constrain theirextension and flattening. These first measurements will be crucial toprecise the outer scale of the Be and B[e] environments, their oblatenessfar from the star and they will test the mechanisms that may transform a "normal" B star into a Be or B[e] star.Note:Long files (usually the fringe tracking ones) had to be splitto accomodate a maximum file size of 100 Mbytes. In the headers of thepreliminary calibrated visibilities belowan abbreviated but easily understandable version of the filenames is used (and these filenames give the beginning times forthe individual pieces).The unphysically high visibility (values > 1.0) resulting for thesecond measurement is a consequence of increased sky coverage bydense cirrus during the morning hours of this night.
