The long road to ALMA
The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA)— situated high on the Chajnantor plateau in the Chilean Andes — requires some dedication to access especially when travelling from the south. The photographer, ESO Photo Ambassador, Heiko Sommer, took this image on the long journey to ALMA, approaching via the long and lonely southern road.
