ESO 3.6-metre telescope against the Chilean night sky

This video shows the ESO 3.6-metre telescope, the oldest instrument operated by ESO at the La Silla site, which houses the exoplanent hunter HARPS. The time-lapse here demonstrates the rapid movement of the stars across the night sky, with the Milky Way clearly visible thanks to the lack of light pollution in the Chilean desert.

Material has been obtained by ESO photo ambassador José Joaquín Pérez.
