The segmented mirror of the ELT

This sequence illustrates how the main mirror of the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) is composed of 798 hexagonal segments, each about 1.4 metres across and 50 millimetres thick.

Noe that the central hole of the final ELT main mirror will be larger than shown here.
