The McMath solar telescope
From its home on Kitt Peak Observatory in Arizona, the McMath solar telescope has no need of dark skies to do its job. Quite the opposite. This telescope uses a huge mirror to project an enormous image of the Sun into the laboratory beneath. By studying the Sun, our closest star, astronomers can get a detailed picture of these deceptively simple celestial objects.
