VLT UT1 U-formed centerpiece
This photo illustrates part of the sequence of lifting the large U-formed centerpiece of the first VLT Unit Telescope (UT1) into the enclosure. This is the largest single piece of the telescope and the operation shown here is one of the most difficult of the entire assembly. It is so big that it only fits through the slit by sliding one `arm' through at a time.
