El “Pequeño Mundo” de Paranal
Les estamos trayendo algo un poco distinto para nuestra nueva Fotografía de la Semana – „Pequeño Mundo“, esta encantadora fotografía del Observatorio Paranal de ESO hecha por un aficionado, y que es un ejemplo de algunas de las grandes cosas que la gente está haciendo con las fotografías y videos de ESO. Casi todas las fotografías y videos de ESO son puestas en circulación bajo la muy flexible licencia Creative Commons Attribution, ¡de modo que es fácil para usted crear su propio material!
Esta interpretación de una Anterior Fotografía de la Semana fue creada por el astrónomo graduado Alex Parker. Capta algo de la esencia del Observatorio Paranal – un pequeño mundo donde los astrónomos dejan atrás la Tierra y viajan a las estrellas...al menos metafóricamente.
El observatorio está ubicado en las profundidades del árido Desierto de Atacama, que realmente puede parecer un ambiente extraterrestre. Está lejos de la civilización y de la vida moderna, un lugar donde los astrónomos visitantes pasan sus noches mirando hacia las maravillas del Universo empleando la emblemática instalación de ESO, el Very Large Telescope (VLT). El VLT es la razón por qué el Cerro Paranal fue transformado de una montaña más en los Andes chilenos en una base para la investigación científica de clase mundial.
Cuando la noche cae sobre Paranal, y el cielo nocturno brilla con estrellas, nebulosas y galaxias cercanas, la sobrenatural vista enfatiza nuestro lugar en el universo – como Alex parker demuestra tan creativamente – flotando a través del espacio sobre un pequeño trozo de roca.
