Mounted image 029: The Orion Nebula: the jewel in the sword
In the famous constellation of Orion, the Hunter, a beautiful nebula glows like a jewel in the hilt of the great hunter’s sword. This colour-composite mosaic image of the central part of the Orion Nebula is based on 81 images obtained with the infrared multimode ISAAC instrument on ESO’s Very Large Telescope at the Paranal Observatory. The famous Trapezium stars shine near the centre.
